MULTIFIGURED BATTLE SCENE Oil on canvas. Doubled. 71 x 96 cm. In decorative splendid frame. In open field in mountainous landscape the violently raging battle with numerous soldiers on horseback. In a wedge going from lower left to right the hardly distinguishable combat parties are depicted; soldiers in shining armour as well as fighters in lansquenet dress with hats are to be seen. On the left front side some soldiers in shining armour have already gone down, while on the right side the fighting action continues. Particularly striking are three grey horses on the right side of the picture and a rider on the right in red garb in back view. The blue sky with large white cloud formations still visible on the left rear half of the picture has completely darkened to the right by the dark brown clouds of smoke. Painting in predominantly monochrome colouring, in which only a few red and blue garments set colour accents. (1221643) (3) (18)
