HOLY SEBASTIAN
oil on copper.
22 x 16.8 cm.
Handwritten on the back after Bologna.
In carved frame.
In southern landscape the nude figure of Saint Sebastian tied to a bare tree, who has already been hit by arrows. Compositionally, the painting is strongly reminiscent of works by the Carracci brothers and, especially in its movement, of Annibale Carracci. A bow can also be made to Pietro Faccini (c. 1562-1602). From his hand comes a representation of a man, which is recorded in the Fototeca Zeri and shows similarities. (12205613) (13)
