SCOFFING CHRISTI
Oil on canvas.
149 x 116 cm.
The biblical theme presented here in large format. Jesus with exposed upper body, in the half-portrait illuminated from the upper left, has his head turned back to the right while a torturer holds him by the arm and looks up with open mouth. Christ's hands bound with a rope, in the left hand the mocking sceptre, the abdomen surrounded by the red mocking cloak. However, the figure on the upper left with beard and forelock could also be an apostle mourning the scene. The painting in good quality. The reproduction of the bodies as well as the physiognomy of the faces is certainly in Procaccini's painting style, also the reproduction of a scene with densely packed bodies. The lighting of the group is skilfully mastered: the illumination from the upper left is mainly of the figure of Jesus, but also of the head in the upper left corner, while a diagonal shadow shows the shoulder of Jesus and the crudely reproduced head of the torturer in a darkened state. A convincing comparison is offered by the "Ecce Homo" picture of the Master, which is in the Diocesan Museum in Milan. (1220312) (2) (11)

THE MOCKING OF JESUS
Oil on canvas.
149 x 116 cm.
This is a large-format painting of the Bible scene of the Mocking of Jesus. The half-length portrait of the bare-chested figure of Christ is illuminated from the top left, his head turned back to the right while the torturer holds his arm and looks up with his mouth opened. A convincing example of comparison is an Ecce Homo painting of the master held at the Diocesan Museum in Milan.
