Paris, late 19th century.
Bronze, cast, patinated. Female figures standing on a round base, fully figured, dressed in antique clothing, each with raised arm. In each hand a holder for the Empire-style union of five firing points, cast and chased in metal. Each in Empire style with vegetable volutes and lighting points. Electrified. These two allegorical figures represent once "day" and once "night" and should be thought of as counterparts. Patina minimally rubbed in places. On two separate wood-carved and cream-coloured set wooden bases with profile groove decoration. (1222352) (13)
