JOHN XXIII: (1881-1963) Pope of the Roman Catholic Church 1958-63. A fine T.L.S., `+ Angelo Gius.[eppe] card.[inale] Roncalli Patriarca´, one page, to a 5.5 x 4 card, Venice, 3rd May 1956, to Professor Paul Lesourd, in Italian. John XXIII, in his capacity as Patriarch of Venice 1953-58, states in part `I receive and appreciate ''Notre Epoque'', which revives me the memories of the noble and beloved land of France…´, and John XXIII adds in his hand `e di lei, Prof. Lesourd´, (''and of you Prof. Lesourd''). The card bears to the upper left corner, a red ink stamp with John XXIII monogram bearing his motto ''Oboedientia et Pax'', (''Obedience and Peace''). John XXIII refers to his memories of France having been few years before Apostolic Nuncio to France 1944-53. VG £250-350
