The Virgin and Child blessing on a landscape background
Oil on canvas
H. 158 - W. 98,5 cm
To be compared with the Virgin and Child from Tintoretto's Workshop (Giovanni Galizzi?) at the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam (Cf. Paris, Musée du Luxembourg; Catalogue of the exhibition Tintoretto - Birth of a Genius - Cat. 42, pp. 153 & 161 - Paris 2018).
The composition, inspired by a sculpture by Jacopo Sansovino (Piazza San Marco, Logetta) is found in several paintings by Jacopo Tintoretto: The Holy Conversation in the Museum of Cologne (ca. 1550 - 1555; idem p.152 & 160), the Virgin and Child from Hampton Court (Royal Collection) and the Virgin and Child from the Barbaro Curtis Collection in Venice against a backdrop of landscape as here (Cf. Pierluigi De Vecchi, L'Opera completa del Tintoretto, no. 11 - Milano1970).
