Round box in white glass paste, the frame in 18K gold (750‰), the lid decorated with a miniature on ivory, painted in grisaille, representing a presumed portrait of Necker in profile bust facing left, signed JJ de Gault, bottom right; the frames with bead mouldings (two side panels restored). Incomplete Master Goldsmith's mark. Paris, 1781-1782. Height: 2,4 cm - Diameter: 6 cm - Gross weight: 73,51 g Jacques-Joseph de GAULT (1738-after 1812), miniaturist painter, specialist of grisailles, he worked in association with the greatest snuffbox goldsmiths, such as DRAIS, OUIZILLE or VACHETTE.
