AURICOSTE Joseph. Two-day marine chronometer, identified by its number "2908". Circa 1901. It is protected by a three-level cabinet. The enamelled dial is marked "J. AURICOSTE No. 2908", the hours on the circumference are in Roman numerals. This model has a power reserve of 56 hours, indicated by a small dial at noon. The minutes are indicated in a small dial at 6 o'clock. The stopwatch is mounted "cardanically" and has its own locking system so that it can be moved (or even transported) without damage. It has its own winding key. The movement is enclosed in a drum, dust cover, made of brass. The box is on three levels with brass reinforcement brackets distributed over the three levels. Inlaid brass "Medal" located between lock entrance and third level opening push button. The key is there. Two hinged brass carrying handles. Diameter of the dial 10 cm. Box dimensions: 18 x 17.5 x 17.5 cm. Sold as is. Note: Emile Thomas, a renowned watchmaker specialising in marine chronometers, founded his own watchmaking company in 1854. During the 1880s, Joseph AURICOSTE, along with Emile Thomas, participated in the development of the house. In 1889, Joseph Auricoste succeeded Emile Thomas. He gave his name to the house and offered his recognized expertise, which was rewarded at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900.
