CANIVET Jacques (1714 / 1773). Pinnacle graphometer. Semicircular plate pierced and engraved with rinceaux decoration. Compass embedded in the turntable. Aimed by pinna at the ends of the alidade. Blade divided on brass on the circular periphery of the plate engraved "Canivet à la Sphère à Paris - 1769". Sleeve joint (the knee) on the back of the turntable allowing the instrument to be mounted, generally on a tripod. Diameter 25 cm. Tired thread at the knee joint clamp. Note: Jacques Canivet, an exceptional master foundryman, engineer to the King and the Academy of Sciences, nephew and successor to Langlois, settled on the Place du Marché Neuf in 1743, then on the Quai de l'Horloge from 1747. On this date he took the sign "A la Sphère".
