MANUSCRIBE
Water and Forestry Administration. Dax inspection. Walk in the land of dunes and moors.
S.l. Dax], 1939, in-8 square, [31] ff. anopisthographs, unencrypted, covered with medium handwriting and legible, illustrated with 35 drawings in ink, in sheets of strong paper with eyelets, under an amateur folder consisting of two cardboard plates with eyelets bound with red ribbons.
Charming little manuscript edifying on the Landes.
Dated on the title page of 1939, and explicitly intended for a young audience, signed André Paul (f. 30) is intended as a presentation of the past and present life of the Landes department.
It emphasizes salient and picturesque aspects of the region: the work of the Forestry Office to contain the advance of the dunes (the 1930s were an important period for the stabilization and classification of the dunes in the Landes); the use of stilts; types of construction; forestry and hunting occupations; resin extraction; cow racing, etc., all through pretty and accessible texts.
The iconographic part proves to be very interesting: each subject covered is embellished with illustrations executed with style and a sure hand in sepia ink, sharp, in the style of educational books.
