The Constable. Tale illustrated, engraved and illuminated by Albert Robida. Paris, Printed for Charles Meunier, 1914. Large in-4, burgundy morocco, large incised leather embedded on each plate, spine with four double ribs underlined by cold fillets extending on the edge of the plates, gilt title, set of gilt inner fillets, brocaded silk lining and endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover, half morocco shirt and case (Trincevel). Luxury edition, only 40 copies printed. It is illustrated with black engravings and large historiated framing borders watercoloured by hand by Albert Robida. A single copy, printed on Whatman paper (No. 1), containing all the illustrations printed separately in three or four states, including the pure etching, all the original drawings and sketches of the illustration, as well as an original unpublished watercolour by the artist; a total of 27 sketches, 23 washes and 10 watercolours. In addition, it is enriched with the following pieces: - Émile Bergerat's autograph manuscript for the preface. - the fine print of the preface. - 3 autograph letters from Robida to Charles Meunier, concerning the book. - a photo-engraving representing a self-portrait of Robida during the war of 1870. - Albert Robida's obituary notice, dated October 11, 1926. - two press articles relating to the artist's death and a photograph of the artist cut out of the press. The covers of the binding are decorated with a large incised leather by Charles Meunier, the top cover of which bears the following signature: Pour M. R. S. Rolo Ch. Meunier 1936
