Le temps d'aimer
Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1892 lower right.
60 x 73 cm
Modern frame.
A late work by an artist who dominated the neo-Greek movement, the bottom of this canvas incorporates an inscription on paper fixed on a reserve that does not conceal parts of the painting. This painting seems to be intended to be transposed into engraving or illustration to illustrate an edition of Villon, indeed the legend of the work is from the author: Our old loved ones warming themselves in the evening to a small fire of goats and regretting the time to love.
That same year 1892, PICOU exhibited The Temptation of Saint Anthony and Vision of Hell.
