Carved ivory elephant covered with gold-plated ornament and precious stones. Sri Lankan, Kandy early 20th. Coat in gold-plated silver, set with precious stones (pink, blue and yellow sapphire, star sapphire cabochons, rubies and sapphires. The elephant is depicted wearing the traditional Esala Perahera ornamentation. The specimen is made of Elephantidae spp. ivory and is listed in Annex I under the Washington Convention and in Annex A of European Community Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996. In view of its age, this specimen is well before June 1, 1947. As a result, commercial use in the EU is permitted. On the other hand, for an exit from the EU, a CITES re-export will be necessary, this being the responsibility of the future buyer.
