KIPLING (R). KIM. Translated by Louis Fabulet and Ch. Fountaine-Walker. Illustrations by F-L. Schmied. Paris, Gonin et Cie, 1930. 2 volumes in-4°, framed green morocco, dishes covered with honey morocco framed with a gilt fillet and decorated with the stylized title by black and gilt fillets, smooth spine decorated with the mosaic title, painted endpapers, gilt head, cover and spine, lined and edged cases (Alix). The most beautiful illustrated edition of Kim, a novel in which the author gives a vivid painting of India, seen by an adventurous young boy who runs ahead of all the experiences of life. The illustration consists of 57 admirable colour compositions by François-Louis SCHMIED (1873-1941), i.e. 15 plates, including the frontispiece, all signed by the artist, 15 large pictorial bands, 15 gold and silver lettering and 12 lamp bases, one of which is in the imprimatur. Only 160 copies of this sumptuous publication were printed, all numbered and signed. Here is ONE OF THE 30 EXAMPLES ON JAPAN including a double suite of 60 off-text and banners (in colour on Japan and in black on vellum). PERFECT ALIX BINDING.
