KONAKEND (Caucasus), late 19th century
The jagged marine field is covered with an ivory hatched honeycomb latticework, each honeycomb is decorated with different multicoloured flowers on stems. The main mouse-grey border has floral boxes, known as "kufic decoration". It is flanked by two bluish floral counter-borders and two other bricks with undulating ribbons. Dated 1286 A.D. in a small ivory cartouche (i.e. 1864 A.D.).
