Head of God Xipe Totec, his headdress is arranged with rigour and balance. His face has a beautiful intense expression accentuated by the open mouth and the gaze towards the sky. Carved and polished volcanic stone with traces of polychromy. Aztec, Mexico. 1350 - 1521 AD. 18 x 16 x 15 cm. This work presents some chips and small lacks: on the tip of the nose, both ears, lips, and around the eyes, the surface indicates that a manual and ritual polishing, it must have been rubbed many times in pre-Columbian times by Aztec devotees who had a particular worship. Absence of restorations, general state of conservation satisfactory. Provenance: Olivier Le Corneur, Paris, February-March 1966 Bibliography. Aztecs, page 104, cat 40.
