Pair of anthropomorphic statuettes depicting a couple of seated dignitaries. The nasal septum and earlobes are adorned with several ornaments arranged in a cascade, they wear a cap held by a frontal band and display a beautiful vigorous expression. The man holds a hallucinogenic mushroom (Psilocybin) in one hand and a triangular fan in the other. The woman carries on her shoulder a shamanic receptacle probably intended for the preparation of mushrooms. These psychotropic drugs were mixed with honey and ingested before the magico religious ceremonies that punctuated the life of the clan. Polychrome terracotta, slight sheen on the tip of the cap and a few small scratches in places. Nayarit, Ixtlan del Rio, Western Mexico, from 100 B.C. to 250 A.D. 36 x 21 cm and 29 x 20 cm.
