A poignant request to come and live with Ida Dumas, her "very dear and beloved Mother". The life she leads is not tolerable, she is saddened by the demands of her father who wants her to live with him, "in his position! It is impossible for me to consent, I was wounded in the heart when I saw that he was not ashamed to put my hand in that of a woman of bad life"... His paternal love should have gotten this person out of Monte Cristo when she entered.... "You still want to open your arms and tear me away from a proven loss by leaving me longer-tems in the hands of a father who doesn't consider the pain I saw you replaced by a lost woman!"...! She has affection for her father, but would not agree to look at her entourage of mistresses, thieves and traitors, unless, of course, he promised to provide an annuity or pension to his mother: "you are still my angel"...
