Gabriel Germain JONCHERIE (active in France entre 1828 et 1844)Les œufs fritsToileRestaurations anciennesFried eggs, canvas47,5 x 39,5 CM - 18 3/4 X 15 1/2 IN. We know that Gabriel Germain Joncherie has participated several times at the Paris shows de 1831 à 1844, despite everything, the knowledge about his career is quite thin . However, his works have reached us in quite large numbers, mainly trompe-l'oeil, still lifes and some interior views. Most of them, as in our painting, show an obvious taste for the pleasures of the table. We find the motif of fried eggs in a white and blue earthenware dish on a stove in many Joncherie paintings, including the painting that was sold anonymously, London, 24 octobre 2018 (Bonhams), n° 191 (canvas, 60 x 73 CM), dated 1842 or the one that was sold anonymously, New-York, 24-25 January 2008 (Sotheby's), n° 366 (canvas, 45.5 x 37.2 CM). Like the latter, our painting extends the tradition of still-life paintings established by Jean Baptiste Siméon Chardin.
