In this oil on copper a Virgin with Child is represented. Mary covers her shoulders with a large blue mantle that symbolizes the purity and immateriality of the spiritual. Underneath, she wears a pink tunic with a geometric neckline and wide sleeves finished with mink skin. This color is related to love. Her long, abundant curly, shiny hair that falls over her shoulders and back is partially covered by a white veil of numerous folds. From his head emerges a luminous fringe of golden rays. It presents white and delicate carnations with straight nose; under a few fine blond eyebrows, almond eyes that look down with a somewhat absent face and small mouth of fleshy and reddish lips. With his left hand he takes the foot of his son who is sitting on his lap and with his right hand holds his back. The author represents him as a child with curly hair and pink carnations, barefoot who wears a white tunic with a brown mantle that looks at his mother raising her hands and touching her hair as if wanting to embrace her. From her hair emerges a small fringe of short golden rays. Behind them is a rich green fabric with golden embroidery flanked by two arches through which we can see white architectures. Its frame is Dutch style molded and ebonized wood. In the piece that occupies this cataloguing we perceive important characteristics of the Italian Renaissance such as the elegance of the movement of the Virgin. The artists of this artistic movement found in Mary the best pictorial means to express the ideal of feminine beauty. At the same time, in this copper we find other important characteristics of this artistic period such as the harmonic simplicity of the colours and the order achieved by the triangular composition of mother and son. These qualities transmit serenity, moderation and balance to the spectator. 28,5 x 22,5 cmOil on copper
