Rastaqi Jesus Christ. Dada, S.l. Collection (Paris) n.d. (1921). In-4 (165 x 230 mm), stapled.
Original edition, one of the 1000 numbered copies. Book illustrated with drawings by Georges
Ribemont-Dessaignes.
The book was initially to be published by Grasset. The publisher asked for too many changes to the texts, so Picabia turned to René Hilsum, who was as difficult as Grasset. Not wanting to give in, Picabia made Jesus Christ Rastaquouère appear on his own account by keeping the label of the Dada Collection that the Sans Pareil already used, and put the book on sale at Jacques Povolszky's bookshop at the Librairie-Galerie La Cible. This incident marks the beginning of the split between Hilsum and the Dadaists that the publisher had supported from the beginning.
