First edition in French of the Mémoires de Casanova, whose publication has had many adventures. Composed in French, the Memoirs were published for the first time in German by the publisher Brockhaus in Leipzig, after receiving the manuscript from the author's children. He had it translated and published it in Leipzig from 1822 to 1828. The Parisian publisher Tournachon, smelling commercial success, immediately had this edition translated from German into French by the writer and politician François-Jean-Philibert Aubert de Vitry (1765-1849). It was the first French edition to be distributed.
