The Prophets of the past. Paris, A. Hardel for Louis Hervé, 1851.
In-16 (163 x 120 mm) of XXXVI, 160 pp.; eggplant semi-percaline, preserved yellow cover (slightly posterior binding).
Clouzot, 37.
Partly original, rare edition, Le volume, printed in Caen in June 1851 and published at Trebutien's expense, is dedicated to the Baroness de Maistre, it contains studies on Maistre, Bonald, Chateaubriand, and Lamennais.
Copy at all margins, with ex-dono on the false title: "Offered to M. Ph. de Chennevières by the publisher Trébutien".
It is most probably Charles-Philippe de Chennevières-Pointel (1820-1899), art historian who organized the Salons du Petit-Palais and the Menus Plaisirs as well as the Universal Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1855.
