Marshal Louis Nicolas Davout. AUSTRIA (Empire) ORDER OF SAINT ETIENNE DE HONGRIE Plaque of a large cross, by Biennais. Silver, gold, enamel, three-part centre. On the reverse side, green leather medallion with gold inscription "Biennais goldsmith of the Emperor and King in Paris". Bielnais system clip with polished iron spring and two hooks. Gross weight: 53g. Diameter: 88 mm. T.T.B. History: Nine large crosses were distributed to Frenchmen are the Empire including that of the Marshal in 1810. The patent letter authorizing the wearing of the decoration was sent by Napoleon on April 4, 1810. The original drawing of the plaque made by Biennais will be found in the collections of the Paul Marmottan Library.
