Marshal Louis Nicolas Davout. Beautiful and large field canteen by Marshal Davout, made of glass caparasconned silver, with four suspension rings. Screw cap used as a cup. Body engraved with the number "L.D." in a shield surmounted by a helmet, on marshal's sticks, decorated with bees, enriched with the Legion of Honour and laurel branches. Medium and small punch guaranteed 1798-1809. Goldsmith's stamp. Ht 22 cm x 9 cm. Gross weight: 710g. Good condition of use. First Empire period (1804-1808). History: This gourd is similar to that of Emperor Napoleon I, used for hunting and in the countryside, and kept at the Napoleon I Museum at the Château de Fontainebleau. This canteen attributed to Biennais is very similar in its conception to ours. The arms on our canteen, the number on a helmet shield, allows us to date it to before the creation of the Napoleonic nobility and the obtaining of the title of Duke of Auerstaedt, between 1804 and 1808. Significant traces of use prove that it followed its owner during the Empire's campaigns
