Head of a holy Woman, (Mary Magdalene?), or of Sybil in carved alabaster. Young face, with open forehead, small almond eyes, full cheeks and a small mouth; head topped with a large turban with an angular and deep pleat held by a kind of guimpe enclosing it on the sides and covering the chin up to under the lower lip. At the back of the head, vertical open mortise with sealing remains. Northern Netherlands ?, late 15th century Height: 16.5 cm Base (small restorations on the nose and lower lip) Origin: Old Jacques Mercier collection, antique dealer, and his wife Paulette Mercier alias Florence Arnaud, actress, Paris, around 1960.
