Pair of small washers in grey and yellow silver representing the Works of the Months: March, the pruning of the vine and September, the sowing. The characters are dressed in short belted tunics, shoes and foals. England ?, second half of the 15th century Diameter: 9.6 cm Mounted in a frame of bicoloured toothed festoons, probably in the 19th Diameter: 15.5 cm These washers showing field work seem to have been particularly popular in England. The subjects were inspired by engraved woods illustrating the calendars of the months of the Books of Hours. Book consulted: P.
