Mai Thu was always deeply committed to peace and the independence of Vietnam, and with this in view he collaborated with UNICEF, painting numerous scenes of children playing to raise awareness in Western audiences. This brought him considerable fame and enabled him to put the spotlight on his political and social combats. This work by Mai Thu is a perfect illustration of this. It shows children at play in a colorful, joyous atmosphere. The innocence and joie de vivre of these little figures are brilliantly depicted by this talented silk painter, through an assured line and the use of a lively, shimmering palette.
