X] LARGE ARCHAIC VASE COVERED WITH PINES AND THREE CRANES, FANGHU
China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century, Probable work of the Canton / Guangzhou workshops
Large and notable group in carved ivory with a yellow patina. It shows an archaic covered fanghu vase erected on a rocky base with multiple crevices and many roots. From the ground rises a pine tree with an open trunk, multiple branches and "parasols" of thorns. Two cranes stand in the lower part; a third, perched on a high branch, tilts its head towards the other cranes. Wooden base openworked with branches and lignzhi mushrooms attached (some missing).
