collective pictures Collection of 59 mostly chromolithographic French and German Liebig menu cards. Antwerp/Paris, Liebig Company, around 1900. Versch. Formats from approx. 10.5 x 7 to 19 x 13.5 cm. First German edition of the famous riding school. - De la Lance II, 250th - Menessier II, 250th - Lipperheide Tc 31, footnote - Nissen, ZBI 852 - Der deutsch-franzos. Parallel text printed in two columns, the title page in red and black. - The beautiful double-leafed copper shows pictures of riding and dressage exercises, a stud farm, the foal pasture, bridles, etc. - The great allegorical copper represents the Duke of Newcastle, surrounded by centaurs, kneeling horses, etc. that praise his fame, as well as his triumphant reception in Olympus. - Duke William of Newcastle (1592-1676) was one of the most important English riding instructors, a favourite of his kings and general, who after his return from exile retired to his good ones to devote himself to his horses and literature. - 2 copper with small tear, 1 Ku with backings, 2 Ku with small marginal blemishes, 2 Ku with replenished marginal blemishes, 1 Ku with small blemish, occasional a little bit stained, overall however complete and well preserved. Collection of 59 predominantly chromolithogr. French and German menue cards by Liebig. - 11 inscribed, otherwise blank. - Parially bumped, occ. minor defects, a few cards mouldy on verso, otherwise overall good. *
