While the pictures primarily show scenes from the Old Testament, here the dictum "Deus lux est", explicated in the New Testament (John 1,5) and often declined in the Gothic period, is impressively and pictorially performed. An impressive manuscript that captivates the observer not least with its captivating miniature entrance "God as creator of the world" and its creative pictorial solutions. - Good condition. 2 vols. (facsimile and commentary) Commentary in French and German. With 1 full-page miniature, 1 heraldic page and 1032 Miniatures partly heightened in gold. Orig. leather with rich blind toolings respectively orig. leather in original publishers folder (slightly rubbed). - This world-renowned manuscript is seen as one of the most impressive gothic manuscripts, which underlines the rich use of gold in the over 1000 medallions.
