TWO MONUMENTAL ICONS FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS SHOWING GOD FATHER AND THE DEISIS Russian, circa 1600 Tempera on wood panels. The haloes gilded. Lord Sabaoth is shown half-length, facing the beholder, attired in white vestments, blessing and holding the globe cruciger. His face depicted in subdued earthly tones. He is flanked by a seraph and a cherub. Christ in Majesty is seated on an opulent throne and red cushions. Christ is blessing and bearing the open Gospels. He is surrounded by an almond shaped area depicted in red. Throughout the mandorla cherubim can be seen. The blue glory decorated with stars and seraphim, the red four-pointed star with the Apocalyptic symbols of the Evangelists. He is flanked by the Mother of God and St. John the Baptist, presenting inscribed scrolls. Restorations. 80 x 145 cm / 85 x 142 cm.
