ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE AMPHORA
ca. 525 – 500 BC; height cm 34; An Attic black-figure amphora with incised details, characterized by triple handles and torus foot. On the neck, palmette-lotus chain elements and on the shoulder tongues pattern. Under each handles, a configuration of four palmettes and volutes in which intersection a circle on the center. Below the main decoration, two lines, a meander band, a frieze of upright lotus buds and radiant rays from the foot. On one side, the main decoration consists of the capture of Cerberus: Herakles wearing a belted lion skin and holding his rod, with the head turned towards the monster Cerberus, depicted with two heads. On the far side of the monster, the goddes Athena, with the spear in the right hand, followed by Hermes, wearing his typical boots and followed by an attendant. On the other side, three armed hoplites and a horse. Heavily restored.
