While the fair is in full swing, one of the French artist's (who died in 2010) giant spiders has been sold for $40M by Hauser & Wirth - the auction record for a Spider being set at $28M. The 1996 steel structure came from the collection of Ursula Hauser, mother of the gallery's co-founder 

“Louise Bourgeois: The Woven Child” presents 90 works from the final period of Louise Bourgeois’ (1911-2010) career: the artist’s powerful fabric sculptures invite visitors to contemplate her emotional repair in the final two decades of her life.

Frieze New York has just ended, and initial figures for the works sold are already circulating. Louise Bourgeois made the headlines within a few hours of the opening.

Louise Bourgeois, Anna-Eva Bergman (2023) and Frida Kahlo (2024), as well as the Fredriksen Collection and Scandinavian design (2022), will be the focus of the new National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design. The museum, which will become the largest in Nordic Europe, will open in Oslo in June.

The Faurschau Foundation opened in Greenwood, Brooklyn, on December 15. It will host two thematic shows with works from Faurschau’s collection per year; its inaugural exhibition The Red Bean Grows in the South explores war, sexuality, and politics and features artists such as Louise Bourgeois and Ai Weiwei.

The Swiss mega-gallery is setting up a new space in Monaco, in a nearly 3229 ft2 location. It will welcome its first visitors on June 19, with an inaugural Louise Bourgeois exhibition. An opportunity to establish a "dialogue with the art scene in the South of France" according to its president. (The Art Newspaper)

With the FIFA World Cup 2022 fast approaching, Qatar Museums has announced plans to install over 40 new and commissioned public artworks from a range of local and international artists, including Louise Bourgeois and Bruce Nauman. Qatar began its contemporary public art program in 2021 and has installed 70 works already.

Last week, the King of Spain inaugurated a new contemporary art museum in Cáceres –founded after dealer Helga De Alvear bequeathed her entire collection of 3,000 precious works to Spain’s Extremadura region. The collection includes pieces by Louise Bourgeois, Olafur Eliasson & Kandinsky. (The Art Newspaper) ​

Though his name crops up regularly in auction sales (often preceded by the words “attributed to”), the French architect and interior designer Georges Bourgeois (1898–1937), who practiced under the sobriquet Djo-Bourgeois, is little known outside of specialist circles.
