Juan Gris (1887-1940)

This painting features all of the Cubist master’s qualities and boasts a noteworthy provenance: it belonged to Léonce Rosenberg.

In this still life from the middle of the First World War, we can see the new directions taken by the Cubist artist. His dealer and close friend Léonce Rosenberg, to whom it belonged, played a fundamental role in his work.

The Spanish painter was mainly famous for his flower paintings, which brought him immense success, riches and fame.

On Thursday, March 3, La Suite Auction House in Barcelona is set sell the monumental The Triumphs of Alexander in Babylon depicted on a six-paneled screen painted in oils (192 x 312 cm/ 6.2 x 10.2 ft, est. €80,000/120,000), the first of which is unfortunately missing.
