With this Susanna, the 16th-century painter mingles Flemish realism with Italian elegance.

This accomplished watercolor by Antwerp master Jacob Jordaens, a preliminary sketch for a major work, reaped a rich reward.

Dating from around 1660, this painting features a subject from the Acts of the Apostles, painted several times by Jacob Jordaens, with an iconography very popular at the time.

Recently rediscovered, the chairs by Georges Jacob (1739-1814) were preempted by the Museum of the History of Paris this past Friday. They come from the former Parisian pavilion of Beaumarchais. The Greco-Roman-inspired design, a hallmark of the cabinetmaker, features two swans flanking a stylized urn.

Lauren Halsey, known for her work honoring her local community in South Los Angeles, has been awarded the Seattle Art Museum’s Gwendolyn Knight and Jacob Lawrence Prize, winning $10,000 and a solo show at the institution. The annual award aims to support early-career Black artists.

Originally due to open in 2018, the exhibition begins next month at the Stadtmuseum, Dusseldorf. Yet “The Friends’ Association has no interest in supporting this exhibition,” says its president—the city’s Jewish community, the dealer’s estate, academics and patrons of the museum have already criticized the show.(TAN)

The fair, hosted in a former gasworks factory since 2012, was operated by Unseen Platform, founded by photography museum Foam. The fair’s future has been uncertain since the withdrawal of Foam and financial backers BankGiro and Blockbuster Fund in 2017. It is unclear whether the 2020 edition will go ahead in September.
