The altarpiece was in jeopardy of leaving the country but was blocked by the government in Genoa at the request of the museum, which preempted the work. The auction house attributed the painting to Fleming Pietro Candido, however, it is in fact by Pellegrino Tibaldi (1530-1596) and his pupil Giovanni Pietro Gnocchi.
