Painting by 18th-century French Artist Marguerite Gérard Goes to Barber Institute of Fine Arts

The Reading by Marguerite Gérard was acquired from TEFAF by the Henry Barber Trust, in Birmingham. Famous in her own time, then partly eclipsed by the fame of her brother-in-law Fragonard, Gérard was rediscovered in the 1970s thanks to feminist historians and was the subject of a monograph by Carole Blumenfeld.
