National Gallery of Victoria Acquires Lavinia Fontana Painting to Address ‘Gender Imbalance’

The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, has acquired Mystic Marriage of St Catherine (c. 1575) by the 16th-century Italian painter Lavinia Fontana, one of Europe’s first professional female artists. It is one of only 30 paintings ever attributed to Fontana by historians.
