The Musée d'Orsay has just acquired by pre-emption one of the rare early works by Edouard Manet to have survived: a Young man's Head from the Self-Portrait by Filippino Lippi, oil on panel, 1853. This important painting enables the museum to better understand the trajectory of Manet's artistic practice.
