A piece of furniture in blackened wood by Josef Hoffmann was the first to take to the stage, receiving €121 ,600 . Already featured on the cover of Gazette no. 3 (see also the article A 1912 chest of drawers as a turning point in Josef Hoffmann's career , page 6), it had caught the eye with its dark, timeless look. Sober in its lines, it dared to feature a baroque sculpture in bas-relief borrowed from plant vocabulary.…
