Things are looking up for Adrian Ghenie, who earned $24 million at auction in just six months this year, placing him 51st in Artprice’s 2021 provisional rankings. In the first half of this year, 17 of his 19 works found buyers. Mr. Ghenie seems to have admirers in Hong Kong, where 85% of his works were sold in 2021. They can offer an annual return on investment of up to 32%: Duchamp's Funeral (2009), purchased for $1.6 million in October 2014, fetched three-and-a-half times that amount less than five years later ($5.7 million).
