17th-Century Elephant Tapestry from Royal Manufacture of Beauvais Fetches €144,400

A rare wool and silk elephant tapestry from the period of Louis XIV was featured in La Gazette in February. This complex and "grotesque" composition, woven in Beauvais from a cartoon by Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer (1634-1699), doubled its estimate on Friday under the hammer of Delon-Hoebanx.
