Tran Phuc Duyen (1923-1993)

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Mamac) in Nice and Thu-Van Tran: a great collaboration which started in 2018, during the group exhibition "Cosmogonies, au gré des éléments", has finally culminated in the first museum monograph dedicated to the artist in France.

A finalist for the Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2018, multi-media artist Thu-Van Tran was invited to spend the two years at Sèvres–Manufacture et Musée nationaux. In collaboration with the Manufacture’s artisans, she has produced a body of work that harnesses porcelain’s evocative beauty.

Vu Cao Dam, Lé Phô and Victor Tardieu were joined by market newcomer Thang Tran Phenh, whose prices are already high.

The Paris court has delivered its judgment on the lawsuit filed in 2018 by Agnès Thurnauer against Thu Van Tran. The former had accused the latter of having plagiarized her work Matrice, in the context of her nomination for the Prix Duchamp. The offenses of counterfeiting and unfair competition were not upheld.

For this fourteenth chapter of “Indochina, Myths and Realities 1800-1960,” the talented Tran Binh Loc is accompanied by Victor Tardieu, Mai-Thu and Lé Phô while Vu Cao Dam offers a beautiful message of hope.

Following three years of construction, the expanded museum will double the Art Gallery of New South Wales’s (AGNSW) original space to display its collection of trans-historical Asia-Pacific art. It also features the Yiribana Gallery – a permanent exhibition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. (ArtAsiaPacific)

The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York will mark the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria with the first major exhibition of Puerto Rican art to be organized in the museum in five decades. It will bring together some 15 Puerto Rican artists, more than half of which identify as women, trans and nonbinary.

This artist-run platform, with over 60 collaborators from 12 countries taking part already, encourages collaboration between a “trans-local network of artists and educators”. The platform champions Latin American “artist-run practices” and has an open call for article and project proposals until May 31. (Hyperallergic)

The controversy sparked after a Park Slope elementary school removed a student mural without explanation. It had contained phrases like “Black Trans Lives Matter”, “Equity” and “Pride”. Frank Giordano, principal at the neighboring school, said the piece was overtly political and inappropriate for the school. (NYP)

Puppies Puppies is known for considering issues related to the LGBTQ+ community, with past works dealing with mortality, trans identity, and forms of power—at the 2017 Whitney Biennial, she had men pose whilst dressed as the Statue of Liberty.
