In a splendid exhibition, the Carnavalet Museum addresses the capital's importance, real or recreated, in the writer's work.

The avant-garde Long Island house, Geller I, that established Marcel Breuer as a leading architect of the postwar period has been demolished. Preservationists tried to save the building in vain, and historians have noted that modernist architecture is increasingly at risk due to changing dynamics in the housing market.

Creating a stir at auction, Le Souk au tapis à Marrakech (Carpet Souk in Marrakesh) of c. 1921 is by a French woman artist little seen in the sale room: Marcelle Ackein (b. Algiers, 1882).

Part two of the Marcel Sztejnberg sale features nearly 170 lots, including porcelain and 17th and 18th-century silverware.

Bertille Bak (1983), Bouchra Khalili (1975), Tarik Kiswanson (1986) and Massinissa Selmani (1980) are the four artists nominated for the 23rd edition of the prize - the most prestigious on the French contemporary art scene. Their projects will be exhibited at the Centre Pompidou on October 4.

France’s top art award has been presented to Mimosa Echard whose multidisciplinary practice combines the surreal, mechanical and terrestrial in pursuit of plant and human symbiosis. Echard has a research-led practice that draws on painting, ceramics and video games. The prize includes €35,000 ($41,000).

The wide range of pieces, the artistry and the reputation of the silversmiths make this third sale of the Marcel Sztejnberg collection well worth a visit.

An exhibition showing the work of the four nominees for one of France’s most prestigious art awards – Julian Charrière, Isabelle Cornaro, Julien Creuzet and Lili Reynaud Dewar – opened yesterday at the Pompidou, in Paris. The winner of the prize will be chosen by a seven-person jury and announced in two weeks.

The 2020 edition of the prestigious prize awarded by the ADIAF distinguished the Franco-Canadian woman and her floral compositions, linked to the history of the independence of African countries. The artists Alice Anderson, Hicham Berrada and Enrique Ramírez were also in the running.
