The Resurrection of Christ. Carved, gilded and polychromed wooden sculpture. Southern Germany. Gothic. 15th century. The sculpture depicts Jesus, reincarnated, showing the stigmata of the Passion on his hands and triumphant over death. Seated on a simple stump and wearing a cloak polychromed in reddish tones and gilt, which partially covers the figure. Magnificent sculptural treatment of the serene face of Christ, with long curly hair and beard. The statue has great majesty, the clothing appears to be in movement around the figure. The sculptor creates an atmosphere of mysticism and great realism, almost supernatural, and manages to transmit great humanity as well as mysticism. Provenance: acquired in Sotheby´s London on 21/4/1988, lot nº 49. 88 x 37 x 20 cm.
