Virgin and Child with Saint Anne Carved wooden sculptural group. Flemish School. Gothic. 15th century. Saint Anne is one of the most typical subjects of medieval imagery, in which she has Mary and the Christ Child in her lap. The Saint is seated on a throne in a frontal position, veiled, she smiles sweetly as she inclines her head. The Virgin Mary is in profile, crowned and with long, finely sculpted hair. In her hands she holds a bowl, making a gesture of offering food to the Child. Provenance: acquired in Sotheby´s on 3/12/1997. Height: 88 cm.
