Marvellous gilded, chased and embossed copper relief. Italy. Gothic. 14th century. This would probably have been affixed to a large processional cross. This great relief Angel of the Annunciation is a magnificent example of Italian work with precious metals. The great mastery of the sculptor, which can be appreciated in the delicate chasing on the face, the ringlets in the hair and the clothing, is truly outstanding. The plaque, with its four-lobed shape, is decorated on the edges with small rhombuses with hammered decoration. In an excellent state of preservation. Provenance: Bought in Sotheby´s London on 10/12/1992, lot nº 12. 9,2 x 8,2 x 2,5 cm.
