Silver filigree and embossed tin incensory.  Indo Portuguese.  Possibly Goa. 17th - 18th century. The copious silver filigree work which decorates the entire object is outstanding.  The central body is divided into ten cartouches and decorated with foliage, topped with a flower.  The lid has concentric geometric motifs. The incensory was a domestic object used to perfume the air in homes by burning aromatic substances inside it. There re two very similar examples to this one in the Hermitage Museum in Amsterdam, made in the same type of silver filigree, dated in the mid-17th century, their provenance being India. 16 x 14 x 14 cm. Weight: 710 g.
