Une robe de bal argent brodée et manteau en lamé argenté, Mila Schön Couture, 1966 A Mila Schön couture embroidered silver evening gown and silver lamé coat, 1966, the coat with label, the ivory tulle dress with striped beading to the empire line bodice and hem, the ground spangled with snowflake like motifs in silver thread, bugle beads and rhinestones, bust 86cm, 34in; the matching double-breasted coat lined in white silk (2) Provenance : The Monika Gottlieb Collection. Condition : Mila Schön gained international recognition when two of her white and silver dresses were worn to great acclaim at Truman Capote's 'Black and White' Ball in November, 1966. Marella Agnelli and Lee Radziwell, who wore silver and white ensembles by the then little known Italian designer were voted first and third best-dressed women respectively on the night. The legendary masked ball, described as 'The Party of the Century' was held inn the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza hotel. It was the hottest invite in town and all 540 guests invited accepted. Capote carefully honed his guest list to be an eclectic mixture of people which included European aristocrats, the cream of American society, novelists, artists, scholars, curators, stars of stage and screen including Mia Farrow, Frank Sinatra, Lauren Bacall, Andy Warhol, Bunny Mellon and Babe Paley.
